FAC-P/PM Transition

VAAA FAC-P/PM Training

The Veterans Affairs Acquisition Academy’s (VAAA) Program Management School is proud to announce that it has revamped its FAC-P/PM training program.  In an effort to continuously improve our curriculum, we identified an opportunity to reduce travel time and gain productivity efficiencies while maintaining the quality of curriculum.

New Entry Level FAC-P/PM Training Courses

Federal Acquisition Institute (FAI), in partnership with the VAAA PM School, has created and deployed a Government-wide curriculum for Entry level participants to meet the new federal requirements for Entry level certification.  This new curriculum comprises a three course series:

  • Course 1 (distance-based):  Project Management Basics (FPM120A).  [Pre-requisite to Entry-Level FAC-P/PM Resident Course]
  • Course 2 (distance based):  Project Management and Project Lifecycle (FPM 120B).  [Pre-requisite to Entry-Level FAC-P/PM Resident Course]
  • Course 3 (face-to-face):  Entry-Level FAC-P/PM Resident Course (FPM121).

The 42 hour distance-based Project Management Basics (FPM120A) and Project Management and Project Lifecycle (FPM 120B) courses will prepare participants with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to apply project/program management practices.  The skills and practices gained in FPM120A&B will be applied in the second component of the 3-course series, FPM121, which is an activities-based curriculum.

The second component of the 2-course series is the five day, face-to-face, instructor led Entry-Level FAC-P/PM Resident course.  This course follows a best practices model, and aligns FAC-P/PM competencies to the actual project/program lifecycle.  At the completion, participants will have a clear understanding and the skills to manage entry-level projects in real world situations to successfully accomplish business needs.

Updated Mid and Senior-Level FAC-P/PM Training Format

In an effort to continuously improve our curriculum, we have identified an opportunity to combine our current 3-day Development and Implementation (D&I) and 3-day Operations, Maintenance, & Closeout (OMC) courses into one 5-day course, Development Through Closeout (DTC).  Training will now be a total of 14 days.

Our goal is to keep you informed regarding the transition to the new Entry, Mid and Senior-Level FAC-P/PM training curriculum/format.  Participants affected by the transition will receive further information directly.  Please contact the Office of the Registrar if you have any questions.
