The Acquisition Internship School develops future generations of trusted business advisors in contracting for the VA.  Its comprehensive curricula and holistic approach assure that interns learn an array of skills and obtain requisite certifications.  As a two-year paid internship program starting at the GS-7 level with a career ladder to a GS-11, it also encompasses extensive on-the-job experience.  This unique program’s competency-based, holistic curriculum focuses on technical, communication, leadership, business savvy, creative thinking, risk management, and interpersonal skills.

The school opened in September 2008 with an inaugural class of 30 interns.  Each year, a new intern class will be recruited.  Candidates for the Acquisition Internship Program are recruited and hired by VA’s contracting organization otherwise known as Participating Acquisition Organization (PAO).  Once the candidate is hired by a PAO, the employee is sent to Frederick, MD, via Government travel orders, to receive blocks of acquisition and other training.

We are building the next generation of contracting professionals for the VA.
